Freestone Resources Prototype Oil Recovery Unit (ORU)
Pictured below is Freestone’s prototype ORU, which was designed and built in order to demonstrate the technology’s ability to separate oil from oil sand and oil contaminated soil without the use of water, steam or hazardous chemicals. The ORU technology was developed, and is wholly owned by Freestone Resources. The fabrication of the prototype ORU was completed with the assistance from one of the leading technology development engineering firms in the United States.
The chemical technology utilized in the prototype ORU was tested and developed in conjunction with a major Texas university. The technology was tested using a sample of Alberta oil sands, and the results indicated that over 96% of the hydrocarbons were removed from the sample, and approximately 99% of the chemicals were recovered for subsequent reuse. The recovered chemicals (distillate) was analyzed via gas chromatography, and it was determined that the distillate showed no signs of degradation or change in chemical composition.
